Special Postmark
With profound cultural value, the twelve Chinese zodiac signs are an important symbol of Chinese tradition. To welcome the Year of the Horse, Hongkong Post releases the third issue of the fifth Lunar New Year special stamp series, which consists of a set of four stamps and two stamp sheetlets featuring horses in various posese.
Acknowledgement: Hong Kong Heritage Museum
$2.20 Stamp - The stamp showcases a horse ornamented with festive floral motifs and peonies set off by a pink backdrop. The horse, which represents determination and strength, and the peonies, which stand for prosperity and wealth, complement each other perfectly in expressing warm wishes for a new year filled with good fortune and affluence, where life flourishes as vibrantly as flowers and careers surge forward like a spirited horse.
$4 Stamp - The stamp depicts two horses galloping with their heads held high between towering peaks. With smooth contours, these agile horses seem to fuse into the mountains. The horses, adorned with layered and undulating mountain textures in an ink-wash style, symbolise the spirit of perseverance and the ambition to scale new heights.
$5.40 Stamp - The stamp portrays a gallant horse, prancing with its head held high, decorated with exquisite ancient copper coins. The combination of the horse and the copper coins signifies both the aspiration for swift success and career advancement as well as the wish for abundant wealth and great prosperity in the year ahead.
$5.50 Stamp - The stamp design employs defined lines to delineate a dashing horse and incorporates colourful lanterns on its body to produce a sense of lightness and pleasure. The lanterns denote enduring brilliance and continuous success, bearing the heartfelt wishes for the new year.
