The “Year of the Rooster” stamp issue is the sixth in Hongkong Post’s fourth Lunar New Year special stamp series. To usher in a new year, the stamps feature rooster shaped artefacts made of floral fabric, iron sheet, coloured seashells and golden silverware in four auspicious compositions. This commemorative series is a must-have item to celebrate the festive season. One of the two stamp sheetlets issued this year is printed in silk to complement the festivity of the Chinese New Year.

3World Heritage in China Series No. 6: Kaiping Diaolou and Villages

Diaolou is an iconic architectural form in Kaiping that encompasses living, defence, shelter and security. The architecture juxtaposes rural Chinese and western influences. 4Revitalisation of Historic Buildings in Hong Kong II
Date of Issue:2017/04/25
Revitalisation of Historic Buildings in Hong Kong II introduces three revitalised buildings, namely Viva Blue House, the Green Hub and Stone Houses Family Garden under Batch II of the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme, as well as Oi!, PMQ and the Mallory Street revitalisation project. Enhanced with a hot foil printing effect, this set of stamps highlights the new uses of these buildings after revitalisation. Moreover, application of Augmented Reality (AR) technology to these stamp designs offers collectors a whole new philatelic experience. The borders of the stamp sheet are decorated with silhouettes of the featured buildings.

6100 Years of Numbered Typhoon Signals

Numbered typhoon signals used for indicating the direction and wind strength of tropical cyclones were introduced in Hong Kong in 1917. Following revisions over the decades, the system that is still in use today was adopted in 1973. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the introduction of numbered typhoon signals in Hong Kong, a set of five stamps and a stamp sheetlet will be issued. Each stamp features a typhoon signal printed with Braille ink and the sheetlet narrates the evolution of the system over the past century.

7The 20th Anniversary of the Stationing of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Hong Kong

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison (the Hong Kong Garrison) is the troop stationed by the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for defence duties. Since its stationing in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 1 July 1997, the Hong Kong Garrison has adhered to the guiding principle of “one country, two systems”, strictly abided by the Basic Law and the Garrison Law in discharging its defence functions in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and upheld national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and the security of Hong Kong. Hongkong Post issues a stamp sheetlet in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the stationing of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Hong Kong.

Qipao is a traditional ladies’ costume which reflects the oriental charm and the beauty of the female figure. It first gained popularity in the 1920s and became the predominant daily wear for women in the 1950s and 1960s when qipao reached the height of its popularity. These special stamps illustrate the development of qipao and the fashion trend since the 1910s. To complement the theme, the $20 stamp sheetlet is printed on special cloth-like stamp paper and embedded with a first-ever qipao-shaped stamp.
